EAAA hosting "Aging with Knowledge Conference"

 

The Second Annual Aging with Knowledge Conference, sponsored by the East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging, will be held Thursday, June 6.  This year’s topic is “Stress and You and What to Do.”

Registration will begin at 8 a.m.  The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, 3414 One Place in Jonesboro.

Do you have Powerball fever yet?

You might once you find out how much you could win.

According to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, Saturday’s Powerball jackpot is expected to reach a record $600 million.

The previous record was $587 million won on November 28, 2012.

All you have to do is match the five white ball numbers (1-59) and the red Powerball number (1-35).

The drawing will be held at 9:59 p.m. CST Saturday.

Of course, count on Region 8 News to bring you the winning numbers.

Vendor and craft booths are still available for the City of Leachville’s “Main Street Extravaganza” on Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Formerly known as the Watermelon Festival, several performers are already lined up to take the main stage including Blessed, Clay, Kathy Sharpe, Scott Hisey, Nashville Skyline, Full Service Band, Scatter Creek, Southern Skies and the Justin Heskett Band.

Monday July 15, 1963, was pretty much like any other day in Your Region 8.

The sun had burned off a morning fog, according to the Farmer’s Almanac, lifting the temperature to a toasty 88 degrees.

Cardinals fans were probably feeling a little hot under the collar after Lou Brock and the Chicago Cubs shut out St. Louis, 2-0. A year later Brock would be playing for the “right team.”

Aside from Paul McCartney being fined 17 British pounds for speeding through his hometown of Liverpool, not much else was happening around the rest of the world.

Stamp Out Hunger on May 11

On Saturday, May 11, you have a chance to stamp out hunger.

The National Association of Letter Carriers will hold its annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive that day.

All you will need to do is set a bag of non-perishable food next to your mailbox before your regular mail deliver.

The postal workers will do the rest.

Food collected during the drive will benefit the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, which provides emergency food assistance to 5,100 people each week.
