LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas' highest court says a man sentenced to life in prison without parole when he was 14 years old deserves a new sentencing hearing.

The state Supreme Court on Thursday ordered a new sentencing hearing for Kuntrell Jackson, whose case was one of two that led to a U.S. Supreme Court decision last year throwing out mandatory life sentences without parole for juveniles.

The Arkansas Supreme Court says Jackson may present evidence about his age and the nature of the crime at the hearing.

If you plan to enjoy this weekend with a few beers and cocktails, be sure to have a designated driver before you head out.

The Kennett Police Department and the Southeast Missouri DWI Task Force in partnership with the MoDOT Highway Safety Office will be cracking down on impaired drivers.

According to a news release from Lt. Tim Trowbridge, public information officer for KPD, officers will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint.

They’ll be looking for anyone driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

This weekend marks the beginning of Spring Break for many Arkansas college and high school students.

It also marks the beginning of two law enforcement operations dedicated to identifying and arresting young drivers who might be drunk or impaired.

Arkansas State Police are teaming up with local law enforcement agencies across the state and Your Region 8 to reduce drunk driving.

Between March 9-18 and April 13-22, expect to see increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints.

Osceola police have a message for underage drinkers:  “Drive sober or get pulled over.”

On Tuesday, Captain Jeff Creecy announced the Osceola Police Department will join other law enforcement officials around Your Region 8 and the country in conducting saturation patrols March 8-17 and April 12-21.

Officers will be cracking down on impaired drivers, especially young adults and teens.

Capt. Creecy said in a news release, “If you are over the limit, we will arrest and prosecute you.  No exceptions.  No excuses.”

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT)- Chances are right now there's a domestic violence situation going on right here in Region Eight.  For many of these domestic situations - they're so extreme an order of protection is filed to by a judge to keep a victim safe.

But for some of these cases, an order of protection isn't enough.  Which raises the question, is an order of protection really worth the paper it's written on?

Just days after he was paroled, a Region 8 man is back behind bars accused of breaking into a home.

On Saturday, Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies arrested 41-year-old Joseph Daniel Gandy of Bono on charges of residential burglary, theft of property, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

 According to Sheriff Jody Dotson, his office received a 911 call from a man who said when he arrived at his home on Country Road 635 he saw a pickup truck in his backyard and a door window broken out.
