Rockabilly Run rumbles into Walnut Ridge this weekend

Bikers from all across Your Region 8 will be rumbling into Lawrence County this weekend.

The annual Rockabilly Run will be held Saturday, June 22, at Cox PowerSports on Highway 63 in Walnut Ridge.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the first bike out at 10.  The ride will end at Beatles Park.

The ride fee is $20 per hand and $5 for each additional hand.  There will be prizes for best and worst hands with a grand prize drawing at 5:30 p.m.

The screenings will include total cholesterol, anemia, glucose, blood pressure and body mass index.

Learn how to make spears, spearthrowers at Parkin workshop

It isn’t every day you get to make a spearthrower and a spear.

But you can on Saturday, June 29.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parkin Archeological State Park will conduct an Atlatl (Spearthrower) workshop.

Not only will participants learn how these tools were made, they will create and take one home.

The workshop is open to everyone, ages 10 and up.

Registration is required and a $20 fee will be charged for materials.  Participants are encouraged to bring a sack lunch.

Registration underway for autism conference

The Autism Association of Northeast Arkansas will hold its Seventh Annual Autism Conference on Saturday, July 13, from 7:30 a.m. to noon at St. Bernards Auditorium in Jonesboro.

The training session is designed for and open to special education advocates, parents, educators and the community.

Registration is $25 per person.  Vendors are also welcome to set up a booth for $25.

On Monday, June 10, you’ll have a chance to ask U.S. Senator John Boozman for answers.

Sen. Boozman will host a telephone town hall meeting, starting at 7 p.m.

Arkansans will have the opportunity to ask the senator questions or just listen into the conversation.

The United States Navy Band Mid-South will present a special concert of patriotic melodies and traditional military band music on stage at The Ritz, 306 W. Main in Blytheville on Monday, July 1, at 7 p.m.  This Independence Celebration Concert will be a great way to kick-off the holiday week.  The program is presented by The Arts Council of Mississippi County.
