Redneckin' on the River to feature flying carp tournament | Events
Imagine a fishing tournament without rods and reels. Instead, all you’ll need for the “Redneckin’ on the River” Flying Carp Fishing Tournament on Saturday, July 7, is a boat, a net and a pair of hands.
The tournament will start at noon at the Triangle River Access, also known as the Boat Club Shoot, in Pemiscot County.
The tournament rules are simple:
- $30 per boat
- Only one hand-held dip net per person
- Limit of three people per boat
- Missouri fishing license
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- All entry fees must be pre-paid at Baker Auto Parts in Caruthersville. No fees will be accepted the day of the tournament.
- Participants are also encouraged to wear life vests and face protection.
The team with the most fish will be declared the winner. Trophies will be awarded to the top three boats. If there is a tie for first place, there will be another run to determine the winner.
As for catching the fish, you’ll motor down the river and try to snag the carp as they fly up into the air. Some may even fly into your boat.
In addition to the tournament, spectators will be treated to a redneck costume contest and fresh-cooked carp.
Directions to Triangle Boat Access from Hayti: Take Highway 84 and make a left on D Highway. Make a left on County Road 337. After .5 miles, make a right onto the levee. The boat access is straight ahead.
