Benefit softball tournament set for Sept. 7-8 | Events
The town of Manila is coming together as a community to help two families in their time of need.
A co-ed benefit softball tournament will be held Friday and Saturday, September 7-8, at the Manila City Park. All proceeds will go toward funeral and hospital expenses for the families of Brian Borden, Jr. and Breeonna and Amilia Shirley.
Breeonna, whose family was formerly from Manila, died in July when fire swept through her home in Paragould. Her younger sister, Amilia, remains hospitalized at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
Brian, a student at Arkansas Tech University, died on August 11 at the age of 19.
The entry fee for each team is $250. The fee is due by September 3. Teams must have an even number of men and women, 16 years of age or older. Teams will need to supply their own balls.
