Angels needed for children's hospital fundraiser

The inaugural Angels for Angels fundraiser benefitting Arkansas Children’s Hospital and its medical transport helicopter, Angel One, will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Reynolds Park in Paragould.

The event will feature live entertainment, a silent auction, and bake sale.  There will also be a children’s area offering games and train rides.

Admission is free.

All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for the cost of operating Angel One.

The United States Navy Band Mid-South will present a special concert of patriotic melodies and traditional military band music on stage at The Ritz, 306 W. Main in Blytheville on Monday, July 1, at 7 p.m.  This Independence Celebration Concert will be a great way to kick-off the holiday week.  The program is presented by The Arts Council of Mississippi County.

Deadline to apply for Century Farm status fast approaching

 

Time is running out for your family to make history.

The Arkansas Agriculture Department is accepting applications for the 2013 Arkansas Century Farm program.

To be eligible for the designation, applications must be postmarked no later than May 31.

The program recognizes Arkansas’s agricultural heritage and honors families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100 years.

In 2012, the first year of the program, 83 farms were certified.

To qualify, farms must meet the following criteria:

5 generations of women

5 generations of women

 

On Friday, May 10, April Lowery’s family got together to celebrate her son’s 16th birthday.

But the girls were also the stars.

She snapped this photo of the family’s five generations of women, which includes:  Great-great grandmother Nettie Jarrett of Blytheville, great grandmother Sandra Jarrett of Jonesboro, grandmother April Goza of Jonesboro, and Nicole Goza of Harrisburg, mother of the 5th generation, Letha Renia Greer.

Compassionate Friends to host balloon release

Compassionate Friends to host balloon release

 

The Compassionate Friends of Northeast Arkansas will have a balloon release at noon Saturday, May 18, at the Paragould Fairgrounds.

The non-profit organization provides support, love, encouragement and hope to those who have lost a child, grandchild or sibling.

Everyone is invited to come out and participate in the release which will be held at the main stage of this year’s Loose Caboose.

Dr. Steven Lewis to read Stories in the Forest

 

Dr. Steven Lewis, obstetrician/gynecologist with St. Bernards OB-GYN Associates, will serve as reader for the May Stories in the Forest this Saturday, May 4.

At 3 p.m. he will be at the St. Bernards Fun Forest at the Mall at Turtle Creek reading Pirate Pete’s Talk Like a Pirate by Kim Kennedy and one of the books in the Splat the Cat series by Rob Scotton.

Parents are invited to come out and enjoy some quality time with their children.
