Investigators: 17-year-old connected to 65-year-old’s murder | News
BLYTHEVILLE, AR (KAIT) – After a 65-year-old man is found dead on his front porch, police say they have arrested a person in connection with his murder.
According to the Blytheville Police Department, 17-year-old Willvontae "Lil Tae" Westmorland is a suspect in the shooting death of Raymond Warren, of Blytheville.
Warren was found lying on his front porch at 636 S. Lake with a gunshot wound March 26 around 1 a.m., according to Blytheville Police.
Officers say the night of the shooting, witnesses reported they saw several people (one with something in their hand) running from the house after the shooting and headed north on Lake Street and then East on the railroad tracks. Police also saw people running from the scene and tried to chase some of them, but no one was ever caught.
The Criminal Investigation Division says investigators did receive some anonymous tips as to what happened that night and were able to develop a suspect.
According to police, Westmorland had been checked into a Little Rock juvenile detention/ treatment facility just days after the homicide. There, police say they questioned the teen who denied any involvement and gave details of his whereabouts and alibis; however, Westmorland's alibi was later disproved, and warrants for Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery were issued.
When asked again about the alibi, Westmorland maintained his innocence say police, but his story changed when police question the validity of his story. That is when police say he changed his story, admitted to his complicity, and identified others.
Westmorland was taken to the Mississippi County Sheriff's Office April 12 and was arraigned in Blytheville District Court April 16 on capital murder and aggravated robbery. He was denied bond.
Blytheville Police are still asking anyone with any information on the shooting to contact the Criminal Investigation Division at (870) 762-0400 as other arrests are possible in this case.
