Man killed, woman injured in crash | News
A Region 8 man was killed Saturday morning in a one-car crash in Mississippi County.
The crash happened at 6:10 a.m. on Interstate 55 near the 65 mile marker.
Investigators with the Missouri State Highway Patrol say 75-year-old Gerald Johnson, Jr. of Caruthersville was traveling southbound when his 2006 Chevy Equinox crossed the median into the northbound lanes. The SUV then hit a culvert and overturned.
Johnson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. Coroner Mike Godsey pronounced him dead at the scene.
His passenger, 73-year-old Betty Joe Johnson of Caruthersville, was taken to The MED in Memphis with serious injuries.
