New owner for That Bookstore in Blytheville

 

That Bookstore in Blytheville has a new owner.

According to Arkansas Business, Mary Gay Shipley announced Wednesday that Grant Hill of Mountain Home has bought the store.

Hill will become the owner in January. 

On February 16 a send-off party will be held for Shipley, who opened the store as a paperback exchange in 1976.  Since that time the store has grown to be a popular destination for readers and authors, including John Grisham who has attended several book signings at the store.

You’ll find a whole lotta holiday gifts and home décor at this year’s Lit’l Bita Christmas.

One of the largest arts and crafts shows in the entire Midsouth starts at noon Friday at the Convocation Center on the Arkansas State University campus.

More than 250 exhibitors from across the country will be showing and selling pottery, jewelry, wood and glass crafts, holiday decorations, ironwork and many other products.  You can also get your picture made with Santa.

Sales tax holiday fast approaching

 

It’s nearly time for kids to head back to school.

To help moms and dads pay for school supplies and clothes, the state of Arkansas will hold its annual sales tax holiday.

The weekend will begin at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, August 4, and end Sunday, August 5, at 11:59 p.m.

For 48 hours, state and local sales taxes will not be collected on clothing, footwear, school supplies and school instructional materials.

The Kennett Community Farmers Market will open bright and early Saturday morning at 7 in the Dunklin County Courthouse parking lot in Downtown Kennett.

From 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, employers from all across Region 8 will be there accepting applications and interviewing job seekers.

Employment opportunities include full-time and part-time positions in healthcare, manufacturing, retail, food service and many others fields.

The event is presented by the Paragould Regional Chamber of Commerce and Arkansas Workforce Services.
