Rockabilly Run rumbles into Walnut Ridge this weekend

Bikers from all across Your Region 8 will be rumbling into Lawrence County this weekend.

The annual Rockabilly Run will be held Saturday, June 22, at Cox PowerSports on Highway 63 in Walnut Ridge.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the first bike out at 10.  The ride will end at Beatles Park.

The ride fee is $20 per hand and $5 for each additional hand.  There will be prizes for best and worst hands with a grand prize drawing at 5:30 p.m.

May is National Stroke Awareness Month.

It’s a big problem which affects millions of Americans each year.

But some Little Leaguers are taking a swing at defeating it.

On Tuesday, May 28, a helicopter will land at the Osceola Sports Complex, 382 North Country Club Road, to deliver the baseball for the first pitch of the Little League game.

The Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer.  And that means trips to local rivers, lakes and swimming pools.

Before you hit the water for fun in the sun, the Arkansas Department of Health offers these steps to avoid recreational water illnesses (RWIs).

RWIs can cause a wide variety of problems, including gastrointestinal, skin, ear, respiratory, eye, neurologic and wound infections.

The most commonly reported RWI is diarrhea, which can be caused by germs like cryptosporidium, norovirus and E. coli.

Golf tournament to continue tradition of funding ANC scholarships

 

The 15th Annual Wayne Taylor Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Tuesday, June 4, at the Big Lake Country Club in Manila.

Donations made to the tournament through sponsorships are used to fund student scholarships at Arkansas Northeastern College.  The scholarships are available to all students from the Buffalo Island and Bootheel of Missouri areas.  Since its inception the tournament has raised more than $65,000 in scholarships.

The organization will host the second annual Trot 4 Tots 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, April 27, at Craighead Forest Park, Pavilion One, in Jonesboro.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the new St. Bernards Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Nothing says summer like baseball and bar-be-cue.

Tonight you can help disabled kids all across Northeast Arkansas play ball while enjoying a delicious BBQ dinner.

At 6 p.m. the inaugural Weiner Pig Roast benefiting the Miracle League of Jonesboro will be held at the Weiner High School Gym.

ASU Red Wolves Coach Bryan Harsin and several politicians, including Rep. Rick Crawford, will be on hand to meet and greet.

In addition to good ‘cue, there will also be door prizes, live and silent auctions, and live entertainment with Trey Stafford emceeing.
